Hello, I am not sure that you booked your tickets through our company. We are Gate 1 Travel, a U.S.based tour operator. It seems you may have booked through Gate 1 which is a European consolidator whom we have no association with.

We booked a trip with Gate1 Travel so that we could visit our son who has been stationed in Asia for service in the US Navy. We paid a deposit for him in good faith, believing per his current orders that he would still be stationed there, but he was just sent back to the states on short notice.

When we called Gate1 to request a credit on our invoice for just his portion of the trip, they refused. To have no flexibility for servicemen is not reasonable.

He can't afford a flight to Asia, and we are already paying for the trip. Truly unkind and greedy.

The $300 amount was still listed on my final bill, but I did not include it with my final payment. It appears that you have accepted it.

The final bill also was increased about $600 hundred dollars more because triple occupancy was reduced to double occupancy. After much complaining and providing screen shots and evidence of the original cost of the trip that was ON SALE at the time of booking, that amount was also reduced to just a couple hundreds dollars above the original quote, reflecting the sale price.

Incompetent regarding flight scheduling

Gate 1 is incompetent in flight scheduling. Orientation w tour manager for Japan will be @ 7pm but flight will arrive @ 11pm. We paid Gate 1 to do their basic job; Schedule flight time coordinates w tour orientation & not arrival in a forgien country @ night w no pick which we prepaid for the pickup.Gate 1 doesn't seem to rectify their mistake. Gate 1 keeps stalling stating they r working on it. It takes more than 2 wks to change a flight schedule. Avoid Gate 1 fr now on.

We needed to travel from Regensburg to Prague Fly back to Paris. The bus driver had the bathroom locked so it was not available. I asked the bus driver to let me use the bathroom and they told me it was dirty. When I told him I don’t care he finally unlocked it and the bathroom was spotless. The lazy *** just didn’t want to have to clean the bathroom after a bus trip. I contacted gale on May 24 and as of June 30 have not received any response. That was our fifth trip with gate one and I seriously doubt that will be number six. Signed me disappointed customer

Buyer beware!! We took one trip with Gate 1 to Morocco and were very pleased. We took the change for any reason insurance and didn't have to use it, fortunately. So my spouse booked a 6 day trip to Iceland for a surprise for Christmas (very thoughtful). Again buying the cancel (which is really change) for any reason insurance. The agent, David Walton assured us that meant what it said, rebook and not lose any money, just change fees. We wanted to rebook to change to the 9 day tour instead, and/or arrive a day early. We were told no problem until the travel agent called their air department and found out the Jet Blue flight they booked us on had no changes, not even with a change fee which is normally $150 per person on Jet Blue. So we would lose $1,500. Not only that, if we use our cancel for any reason we can save the airfare, but lose our land deposit (almost $1,000 with insurances, rebook fees etc.) and we could only rebook the exact same flights and not change departure city (which for us would be San Diego, not Los Angeles. At the time, David Walton told my spouse it would be prohibitively expensive to fly out of San Diego instead of Los Angeles. After researching Jet Blue fare, it was just around $100 difference which would have been just fine. And that would be with Jet Blue and ability to change itinerary for $150 per person and fare difference). So lesson learned. We now have to pay the balance on the trip of $2,400 or lose everything, go on flights we really didn't want in the first place (the incompetent "travel agent" gave us flights that arrive at 6 am in Reykjavik and 2 AM in LA without any other suggestions or travel out of San Diego instead of LA), too short a time to enjoy the trip or lose the initial deposit of $2,200, lose $1,500 in airfares, lose $1,000 for trip deposit and change to later still to fly out of LA instead of San Diego. Scam? Incompetence? I don't know which. Either way we are very dissatisfied. Here's the disclaimer on the airfare as is on their website: The optional Cancel For Any Reason Waiver, which may only be purchased in addition to Travel Protection, allows you to cancel your tour up to 72 hours before your scheduled departure for any reason and receive a credit equal to the full cost of your travel arrangements, less the cost of deposit(s), late/amendment fees, and insurance premium cost. Who in their right mind would expect that the penalty for airfare change would be 100%? When you talk to the agents, they say anywhere from $100 to $300 per person. The reason I booked through an agency was to have someone guide us through the various things to be aware of when traveling to these destinations and give advice. Not to have the agent misrepresent the the change for any reason as "no problem!" When I spoke to a supervisor, Jayne, although somewhat sympathetic, the best she could offer was to waive the $50 fee to change which trip we were taking and said, and paraphrase, your spouse should have read the passenger agreement. It's in the first two pages. Not!! In this case, late/amendment fees are 100% loss? I'm going to search for any other people who have had an issue with Gate 1 and see if there are any lawsuits I can join. I've dealt with travel agents before and never have I been deceived like this.

Avoid Gate 1 Travel- it's bad news

Background:Back in August 2008, with much enthusiasm and excitement we (my wife and I) made a reservation for a sight seeing tour to Egypt, from March 16 to 25 , 2009, with GATE1 Travel (10 Day Egypt For Less with 4 Day Nile Cruise). We decided to make an early reservation to make sure that there is ample time for GATE 1 people to provide us with a smooth and seamless itinerary. We planned to enjoy our vacation. We were taking our 10 year old daughter with us. She was very exited to make the overseas journey to the ancient land of Egypt. We trusted GATE1 with our travel arrangement. Having Leona with us we wanted to show her a good time so, we chose GATE 1, based on our successful experience last year to Italy, to make it happen. We gave our hard earned dollars to GATE 1 and trusted GATE 1 with our vacation plans.

In and around February 24, 2009 we received our itinerary by e-mail, we were exited.

Nightmare BeginsOn March 16 2009, we flew out of San Francisco to Frankfurt , upon landing at around 9:15 am local time we rushed to the gate to make our connecting flight to Cairo that was supposed to be at 10:05 am. To our dismay and shock the airline clerk at the gate counter told us that we are not on the morning flight, but our reservation is for the night flight leaving Frankfurt at 10:48 pm to Cairo. I could not believe it, I showed her the itinerary I had with me she checked her computer screen and said we are not on this flight, sorry, and stated that even if she wanted to board us on this flight, she could not, because the flight is full.

Here we are at around 9:50 am on March 17, 2009 in Frankfurt, after a long flight (about 11 hours) from San Francisco, we are told that our connecting flight to Cairo is 13 hours later. What a shock. What do we do in Frankfurt Airport for 13 hours with a child ?? There is no lodging and food arrangement from GATE 1 either. We are on our own, we felt betrayed after trusting GATE1 with our travel arrangement. We had no choice but to rough it out and wait 13 hours.

During the layover period in Frankfurt Airport I went over the itinerary. There were three parts . The first part containing six pages was clear we were supposed to be on the morning flight (UA 9106) out of Frankfurt. The second part contained all the vouchers and other information consisted of 18 pages, on page 2 it showed that we were supposed to fly to Cairo on the night flight (UA 8910). There was the discrepancy. The third part, containing only one page, agreed with the first part. Someone at GATE1 switched us to the night flight without giving us advanced warning without thinking about its ramifications to the rest of the itinerary without providing accommodation in Frankfurt for food and lodging. Someone at GATE 1 was negligent, and because of his/her negligence we were suffering in Frankfurt.

I thought to myself , while consoling Leona who had not gotten over the shock yet , that this long layover means that we would miss the domestic flight from Cairo to Aswan to join the rest of the tour group for the 4 day Nile Cruise starting on March 17, 2009. While the rest of the group was in Cairo, and later in Aswan, we were stranded in Frankfurt Airport. No one in GATE 1 thought it through or made any arrangement that if they put us on the night flight how would the rest of the trip schedule be affected. No one in their right mind would do this to a trusting client. I am appalled by the way GATE 1 handled this reservation.

Around 5 pm local time, I used my cell phone to call GATE 1 in the U.S from Frankfurt. I wanted to know if there would be someone to meet us in Cairo Airport and how would we get to Aswan from Cairo after this 13 hour delay in the schedule. After talking to two clerks and not getting any response (they put me on long holds while trying to find an answer) the last clerk came through and said that she had called Cairo and someone will be there and they will put us on the morning flight to Aswan from Cairo. Good thing I called because no one knew we were behind the schedule until I called, no arrangements were made for us until I called. This is outrageous, irresponsible on the part of GATE 1 and borderline criminal behavior, it is also the right material for Mike Finney, Channel 7 News, or other similar networks.

Nightmare continuesFinally the 13 hour wait was over and we boarded our flight to Cairo. On March 18 , 2009 at around 4:00 am local time we arrived in Cairo. A GATE 1 representative greeted us at the gate, I tried to maintain my composure. He said to us that he had made arrangements to put us on the early flight (around 6:00 am) out of Cairo to Aswan. After retrieving our luggage we were handed over to a second GATE 1 representative and the first person disappeared. Representative no.2 put us in a van to take us to the domestic airport from the international airport. There, a third representative showed up to help representative no.2. They took us to a glass walled office in the domestic airport where the domestic reservations were being made. Representative no.2 seemed to have seniority over representative no.3. After a lengthy cell phone conversation with his boss no.2 told me that his boss is telling him that it is our fault that we missed our flight and we have to pay for our airfare to Aswan. I could not believe what I was hearing. I said in a calm voice, your boss thinks we missed our flight? I showed him our itinerary and pointed to the mix-up and the mess created by GATE 1, all on paper in black and white in front of him. I said to him calmly, your boss is wrong we did not miss our flight GATE1 booked us the night flight instead of the morning flight out of Frankfurt to Cairo. This mess is not ours it is yours it is GATE 1's .

It is now around 5:00 am in Cairo, some 30 hours since we left San Francisco, stranded in the Cairo domestic airport with two insensitive *** representing GATE 1, who are demanding money in order to book us a flight that we have already paid for. I said how much is it anyway he said for all three it is around 300 Egyptian pounds. I said what Airlines, he said Egypt Air. I was shocked again. I looked at my papers it showed that we paid an extra $789 for Not flying Egypt Air. I said we are not supposed to fly Egypt Air. He said there is no other Airline that flies to Aswan. So, what had we paid $789 extra for, I asked ? The two *** had no explanation for this.

Representative no.2 said to me, talk to my boss. He handed over a sweaty and dirty cell phone. His boss said the same things, that we missed our flight, it is our fault and we must pay our air fare to Aswan. I lashed out at the boss over the phone and handed over the sweaty phone to representative no.2. After talking to his boss he turns to me and says if you do not pay you will stay in Cairo Airport. Now he is resorting to threats. We did not give in and got up to leave. They finally caved in and said ok we will pay. Finally, he came to his senses. After almost an hour of haggling, back and forth with his boss on the cell phone, making our blood boil, he decided to do the right thing. This is the trip to *** I said to myself.

After paying the 300 Egyptian pounds he gave us a computer print out from an old dot matrix printer stating that we are on stand-by for the morning flight. We waited another hour or so to see if there is room in the morning flight. To our dismay the flight was full, no room for standbys. At this point Leona was crying, she wanted to go home. We were tired, exhausted and could not believe this is happening to us. We were still waiting in the airport. The two GATE1 clowns who were supposed to help us kept disappearing in the dense crowd. As soon as we thought we were being abandoned they reappeared and disappeared again all this time their cell phone was glued to their ear. As if they were playing the game of how- frustrated- can- I- make- you-before ""you snap.

Finally they approached us and said that they booked us for the night flight out of Cairo to Aswan (exhibit 4). Meanwhile they are going to put us up in a nearby hotel. We had no other choice, we complied. I gathered my family and asked Leona to be strong and not to cry everything hopefully will be alright with these two clowns. As we were leaving the airport representative no.2 disappeared and representative no.3 remained with us. He turned to me and said that his boss had told him that we are responsible for the hotel expenses. Here we go again, he hands over the dirty sweaty cell phone to me again, I lash out at his boss again and this time using my cell phone called GATE 1 in the US and left a message complaining about the way we were being treated. It is now around 7:30 am on April 18 more than 36 hours since we left home. We were tired, frustrated, exhausted , disgusted, appalled.

Representative no.3 after keeping us in the cold outside air for 30 minutes waiting for the hotel shuttle that never showed up, took my advise and called a cab to drive us to the nearby hotel. Once there we had to wait another 45 minutes in the lobby while clown no.3 was making arrangements with his boss on how to pay for our stay. Finally they give us a room. As soon as we entered the room we all crashed into the beds from exhaustion, lack of sleep, jet lag and dealing with GATE1 *** Making a long story short , we checked out of our hotel at around 8:30 pm. We ended up paying for our meal . Only breakfast was included with the room not lunch or dinner. A new GATE 1 representative took us to the airport.

Flight to AswanOur flight to Aswan was around 11:00 pm. We flew Egypt Air to In Aswan Airport we were picked up by yet another representative. He drove us to the cruise ship. We checked into our cabin. It is now around 2:00 am on Thursday April 19. We were supposed to be in the cruise ship Tuesday evening April 17, 2009.

What we missed:We missed two days of the 10 days tour. Specifically we missed day 2 Cairo tour and day 3 the Aswan high dam unfinished obelisk and other sight seeing.

Emotional distress: The two days that we missed we were stranded in airports and hotels waiting for our flights that should have been coordinated right from the beginning to avoid this ordeal. But it was not. GATE 1 is clearly negligent in that regard. As a result, we were emotionally distressed at a time that we should have had a good time, it was our vacation time . We had booked this vacation way in advance and we were anticipating on having a good time but instead we were thrown into the turbulence of anguish, uncertainty, long waits and harassment by GATE 1 representatives in Frankfurt and Cairo . Leona was hurt, she was crying and wanted to go home. Alexis was disgusted and hurt. I was furious and felt betrayed.

Overcharge:A person in GATE 1 talks my wife into paying extra for Not flying Egypt Air domestically We paid the $789 but all the inter-Egypt flights were with Egypt Air.

I have travelled numerous times with Gate 1 and each time they have exceeded all expectations! I am a very experienced traveler and have been to over 65 counties.

I have been called a hotel snob by many friends and family. I have traveled solo as well as with groups. In my experience, with travel, you get what you paid for.

Perhaps you should deal with an experienced travel agent that can fit you to the proper travel experience. You should ask around from friends, family & coworkers who they use and interview the agent before putting money down.

Don't take a tour with Gate 1 to Egypt! Our family went with them and had the worst accommodations (lodging and food). Plus a tour guide and his friends who scammed us out of $100 in spices + scammed us at a restaurant (charged us money for food that was supposed to be included on the tour and wouldn't let us leave until we did).

You should have gone over your itinerary from Gate 1 carefully when you received it. You would have caught the mistake that set off this series of sad events.

I think the problems you had in Egypt were a result of cultural attitudes, not those of Gate 1.

We have travelled all over Europe and can honestly say that you cannot judge how people in other cultures react by US standards. Always be prepared for the unexpected and read carefully a y information you are given.

I am actually shocked to read all these negative reviews. I just booked my 12th trip with Gate 1, have recommended to many friends who have all loved as well. A lot of these complaints seem to be about losing deposits or not getting money for cancellation - this is pretty standard in the industry I think. I don’t buy insurance with Gate 1, but I do make sure I have really good insurance with my credit card, personal travel insurance through a couple providers as well. I actually won’t travel with any other company.

Did a trip to New Zealand with Gate1. Trip itself was wonderful.

Signed up for optional excursions, including a nature walk. Could not do the walk because of a pulled back muscle from having to porter our own luggage at two different hotels. Trip costs include luggage delivery to room which did not happen in two different places. Tried to get a refund for the nature walk.

Was told to file an insurance claim for medical reasons. Did not seek medical help, rest and anti-inflammatory helped the muscle pull. Told customer service that the pulled muscle was due to a lack of service (luggage porterage) by the tour itself.

Have heard nothing back after leaving numerous messages for customer service. Gate 1 is fine until there is a problem, then company does nothing to help the customer.

Hello, Porterage is included in every lodging. Some are slower to get the luggage to the individual rooms, and we always make it known and allow any guests to carry their own if they wish to have it faster than the hotel can provide the service.

We understand there was no mention of your injury to your tour manager.

As already advised, despite our efforts on your behalf, we were unable to secure any refund from our supplier. Travel insurance would have offered some protection had you seen a doctor locally.

My wife and myself took a tour with Gate 1 to Morocco in February, which I must say was very nicely organized. Where I have had an unpleasant experience with Gate 1 is in the booking of my flights thru Gate 1, and their refusal to address my issue. In booking our flights we requested Premium Economy on all flights to and from Atlanta / Morocco. We paid a surcharge of $599.00 each. The only flight we were accommodated in Premium Economy was Atalanta / Morocco. Connecting flight from Paris to Morocco was economy class with some of our fellow tour group who never paid any surcharge. Based on Gate 1 refusal to compensate for a product we paid for is unacceptable. My advice to anyone is, do not book your flights thru Gate 1, you are not guaranteed to get what you are paying for.

Hello, After reviewing your records, it appears the flight from Atlanta to Paris and the flight from Paris to Casablanca were in Premium Economy. The other flight segments were in Comfort Seating.

It all depends on how each aircraft is configured however none of the seats that you were in were classified as Economy. As advised, should you still feel that you did not get what you paid for, our recommedation is to file a claim with the airline directly.

I booked a tour last year and was very happy. I decided to book book your Kladescope of Morocco tour, and paid for ii. Reservation15950** -**,departing 19th April. I was really looking forward to the tour. Unfortunately had a small accident ,scraping my shin. All was Ok then 10 days ago developed a bad unexpected blood clot . I am unable to fly and contacted Gate 1, offered a doctor's certificate if required. And said i would be rebooking when able to fly . Have now found out i am getting 10% refund on my booking. I did numerous bookings , hotel flights etc all are refunding complete booking amounts or taking a very small cancellation fee except your company. Was told to approach my travel insurance company by your office. .To say i am disappointed at Gate1 is an understatement, i unfortunately recommended your company to friends after last year's trip., won't be again. Gate one cheaped our Phillps Island Penguin tour and put 5 of us on a tour with another group. Problem: bus was extremely uncomfortable Seats as hard as a rock. No leg room. I’m 5’3” and my legs hit the back of the seat. Bus had terrible suspension bounced all over. This was not up to the high quality of their other tours. Don’t bother to book it. If Gate one puts you with another tour group be cautious.

Standby air flight from Amsterdam to JFK Ne York on 4/30/2019

We had flight reservations #152****. Upon check in airport we’re told to standby the KLM 645 back to JFK, NY due to airline over booked. This caused aggression to my aging husband and devastated to his health health. This situation should not happen to your loyal customer.

STAY HOME!

travelled to the former Yugoslavia for an abortion of a trip. People traveling were a mixture of stupid, rude or crude. Personal effects of minimal value vanished during brief trips on the bus. The local restaurants were a mixture of poor food or improper hygiene. There was a minimum of friction admittedly because certain alpha males or females...scroungy looking people.....kept cutting the lines. And everyone was too embarrassed to say anything.Do the right thing and check out non cutthroat tours...pay for the service and avoid people who belong more in a police lockup than a tour bus. also, the political situation there was horrendous: we had to go through more stupid checkpoints...some twice....than it was worth.I want you to know that I never give negative workups so this is fervent.

We will be going on our 7th Gate1 trip in August. They all have been sensational.

We will, as always, review all documents...as directed.

Bed bugs

Someone wrote that I was getting a refund for my stay at the Park hotel never received anything. Gate1 notified me that no one was aware of my situation I said it was our last night and we left at 1am. They said the hotel checked and there was no evidence of bed bugs

We traveled with Gate1, we stayed at a hotel on Lake Bled for two nights I felt like something was bitting me during the night woke up with clusters of redness and itching on my stomach and leg. Notified Gate 1 because hoping I did not bring them home as it was our last hotel stop before leaving for home. Was never that impressed with most of the hotels Gate1 uses.

Gate1 cancelled my flight 3 days after I booked it. I had a very cheap price, and they emailed saying that they were sorry but their system is faulty and the price wasn't correct.

Gate1 is a joke that cannot ensure decent basic ticket booking service. Absolutely not professional at all. I suspect that they actually make money by trying to sell you tons of various insurances of all kinds to protect you against jokes like them. I guess if you don't buy insurance, they cancel you out if your ticket was too cheap.

First time of my life that I see this happening on a long transatlantic flight. They'd better sell tickets to go to the nearby circus. Stay away from these joke. To be more precise, this is the Gate1 website: https://gate1.ch

I have attached the email I received.

It is in German, but you can translate on Google translate. Basically this says that the price was too low and they cannot afford to issue the ticket. Also that they use faulty systems that returns incorrect price. So I'm wondering how such clowns are actually in business if they cannot deal with a hundred of dollars worth of price difference.

Incredible. The most dramatic is that such business even not able to cope with a few dollars price difference can get online terminal access to take your money from your credit card. They said they will refund, so far it is too early to tell if they will and when, since this just happened to me.

So while my credit card is now low on credit (since they charged me) I now need to book another ticket, but now my credit card has less balance off course. Keep this in mind before booking with them, just in case they cancel you out.
